A: The Front page...and reading what concerns the residents in the Forum pages....TV news is always a good resource too.

Q: Why don't you comment on the National Scene more often?
A: There are many National Cartoonists work running in the local papers...sometimes I will do a few....but, I am paid
to do local issues only....I do belong to the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists....and submit work out of state.
Q: Ms Balesteri, with all the interesting items going on in the news, how do you choose your subject?
A: Usually it's what makes the Front page.....but, my targets are always what is going to cut into the residents wallets
unfairly, so, for me, the unfair anything, is fair subject matter.

Q: Is cartooning your only artistic adventure?
A: No, I started as a watercolorist, did Oil Portraits of people, horses....Murals...illustrated a childrens book and
taught children drawing skills in an after school program for many years which I truly enjoyed.

A: I have owned two loving white Maltese dogs for 9 years now, they are always around my feet while I'm at my home computer

Q: Ms. Balesteri, Do the officials you draw about ever get mad at you making them a cartoon?
A: Yes....but ... only if the infomation in it, is wrong...sometimes the story has changed over- night.... yet, a cartoon
has already gone to press!..yikes!..in that case, a follow up cartoon is done and a phone call to the irate party is considered.

do better work. I have a Writer friend, who said , it only takes a minute to tell someone how you feel. Keep up the good works.
I'm a 81 year old living alone as I can a semi invalid that spends some of my time in bed and so I really enjoy the newspaper

Q: Good afternoon! I was curious at the cartoon published by the Brentwood News on July 4th. It pictured homes (23 lots)
in West Brentwood that when sold as tract homes, became more marketable. I live below those 23 lots and am curious as to the
timing of your cartoon. The homes are nearly built and sales have been good, as I understand. The issue of changing them from
custom homes (it's true, no one was interested in buying them, and the neighbors supported changing them to tract homes to
reduce the construction time.) to tract homes came before the city council months ago. So, I guess my queston is, what was
your statement? Thank you for your time.
A: In an answer to your question about the timing of the 'toon, there was a story about this subject on the front page
of the Bentwood News or it might have been in the Contra Costa section of the CCTimes just a couple of weeks ago...I read
the story and drew up the 'toon based on that information and submitted it to my editor...I have no control over what Friday's
edition she wants to run it.. The purpose was to keep busy residents, informed and updated as to what is happening in their
area if they had missed the story.
